Bowman's Root, Gillenia
Stunning, versatile, tough native perennial with clouds of spidery white flowers in early to midsummer on bushy, fine-stemmed 2-3 ft. plants. The delicately divided, deep green, textured foliage on shiny mahogany stems forms a compact, upright mound; numerous 1 in. flowers emerge from deep rose buds and bloom over the course of a few weeks. Seedpods are attractive and turn deep red, as does the foliage in fall. Great fine-textured plant for the perennial border in part sun to shade. Likes moist, rich, acid soil best; very drought tolerant once established. Zones 4-8. Northeast Native.
