24-30" tall, this sweetly fragrant plant was one of the first air fresheners. An oil made from the root is also used in cosmetics. The slowly creeping rhizomes of sweet flag form colonies if left unharvested. A good erosion-control plant that does best in medium to wet soils. Prefers full sun to part shade, but will tolerate heavy shade as well. The sword-shaped leaves make fragrant foliage fillers in the water garden or rain garden. Zone 4-10. Rain garden plant
